This past weekend was a busy one for the sports teams at Brandon University. The Brandon University women's soccer team was in action on Saturday, September 29th. The Bobcats played against the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers. The game was hosted in Brandon at the Healthy Living Centre field and saw an attendance of 155 people. Kickoff time was at 1:00 p.m. and the final score was 1-0 for the Bobcats! The sole goal was scored by Sarah Suchan in the first half.
The Brandon University men's soccer team was also in action against the Blazers. Their game started at 3:15 p.m. at the Healthy Living Centre field following the women's soccer game. The attendance was up slightly at 160 total attendees. The Bobcats ultimately took home the win with a final score of 3-2. The Blazer's two goals were scored by Parker Davis and Robbie Friesen, respectively. Going over to the Bobcats, goal scorers include Nolan Melanson, Osian Edwards and Taylor Blue.
The soccer teams weren't the only the Bobcats out and about this past weekend. The Brandon University men's volleyball team participated in a home tournament at the Healthy Living Centre. The Bobcats first saw action on Friday, September 28th where they went up against the University of Manitoba Bison's. The game started at 6:00 p.m. and ended when the set count was 3-0 for Brandon University. The next game was on September 29th at 11:00 a.m. This game saw the Bobcats beat the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 3-2. The Bobcats also played later in the day against the McMaster University Marauders and handed them a 3-0 score for Brandon University. The Marauders were back on Sunday, but the Bobcats continued the winning streak finishing strong throughout the weekend beating their opponents 3-1.
The women's volleyball team was away at the University of Winnipeg this past weekend. On Friday, September 28th the Bobcats fell to the University of Regina Cougars with a score of 2-3 but sought redemption in defeating the Universite de Moncton with a win of 3-0. On Saturday the Bobcats were up against the University of Winnipeg and managed to pull off another win taking the score of 3-1. Later in the day they faced the Universite de Moncton once again and, once again, defeated them 3-1. The final game for the Bobcats took place on Sunday, September 30th and saw BU lose to the University of Regina Cougars 1-3.
Overall all the Bobcat teams had a busy and well rounded, successful weekend on the court and on the pitch. Brandon University's basketball teams are also getting set to kick off their season. On October 4th at 7:00 p.m. the men's basketball team takes on the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns at the Healthy Living Centre and the women's team heads to the University of Winnipeg on October 5th to take on the U of M Bison's at 2:00 p.m. As always, the entire University community is behind all of BU's teams.
