The Brandon University Bobcats Men’s and Women’s soccer teams have begun their 2017-2018 season.
Both teams had their first games on Sunday, September 10th, opening the season at home on the HLC field. The women played at 1:00PM, winning their game against the Providence University College Pilots 2-0, while the men, who played at 3:15PM, lost their game against Providence College 0-1.
This past weekend, the women continued their winning streak, collecting a tidy win against the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges women’s team. The final score for the ladies was 3-0 in favour of the Bobcats. The men, however, lost a hard-fought battle against the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges men’s team. The final score for the men was 3-4. Both teams played at home on the HLC Field.
The BU Bobcats women team took home the title of Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) champions last season, and are gearing up to have a repeat success.
“We are going to have to work for it because nothing of value comes easy,” Bobcats co-captain Jaycee Castle said in a September 7th press release. “The motivation is definitely high for the returnees after achieving such a major milestone last season. The rookies are feeding off that momentum and they want to be a part of something special.”
The men’s Bobcats team were edged out of the final four of last year’s MCAC champions in a tie-breaking game against the Providence Pilots. They are going into the 2017-2018 season with confidence and motivation to make it to the MCAC Finals.
The Bobcats, as well as the Cougars, play a total of 10 games in the regular season schedule.
The Assiniboine Community College Cougars also played their first game of the year in the past two weeks. On Friday, September 15th, the Cougars played against the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers at WSC John Scouras Field in Winnipeg, MB.
The women’s Cougars team will play the women’s Bobcats team tomorrow, September 20th, at Christian Heritage School (2025 26th Street). The men will be playing on Thursday, September 21st, also at Christian Heritage School. Both games will start at 5:00PM.
