Volleyball took place this weekend here in Brandon where the Bobcats played their final games of the regular season. The men were able to secure another three game series against the Thunderbirds whereas the women took two loses which brought their season to an end. The men won a total of 5 out of 8 sets and the women lost 6 out of 7 sets.
The women’s team had a tough season but ended up with a final record of 8-16 whereas the Thunderbirds team record increased 20-4. On Friday the sets ended up 1-3 against the Bobcats, they were out hit by 14 kills but made 22 errors. The Thunderbirds were on top almost every match and their offence was over double the Bobcats’ percentage. On Saturday the women took a 0-3 loss. Their first match resulted in a two point loss but by the end of the game the final set was lost by twelve points. The ladies top players of the weekend include Nikala Majewski, Courtney Roberts, and Rayvn Wiebe.
The men’s team have had a successful season and are still in the process of working their way through the play-offs. The Bobcats season is currently at 14-10 and with any luck their next games against the Thunderbirds they will be heading further into the CIS West conference. On Friday the men had a really close game and although it ended with them taking a loss they still pushed it to 5 sets. These were some very close games that the men played, several matches even came to within a 4 point difference. On Saturday the Bobcats pushed hard and dominated the court against the T’birds, winning all 3 sets in a row. The mens’ top players of the weekend include Roy Ching, Matt Powell, and Elliot Viles.
The Bobcats next games will be taking place out in Vancouver, BC where play-offs series will start for the men. Best of luck in BC guys!
