Volleyball took place this weekend out in Langley, British Columbia where the Bobcats played their 6th and 5th final exhibition games of season. The teams faced a tough time out in BC, and each took two more losses to their record. The Bobcats were able to walk away with the victory of a single set throughout the whole weekend.
The women’s team were swept away by the Trinity Western Spartans, who outplayed the Bobcats in every match up. On Friday the women lost the first two sets fairly quickly but in the third set were able to push the match to a 2 point difference where the Spartans rallied and took the third and final win. Although Brandon made fewer mistakes and had more blocks they still lost due to their amount of kills, 19-44. On Saturday the women were not able to do any better and lost their final set by 12 points. The ladies’ top players of the weekend include Nikala Majewski who had 15 kills and 3 blocks, and Shayla Heinrichs with Courtney Roberts who each had 9 kills throughout the weekend.
The men’s team were able to walk away with a single set from the weekend, but ultimately the games were largely controlled by the Spartans. On Friday Trinity Western took the first two sets uncontested but faced severe resistance in the third. In the third and potentially final set the Bobcats fired up and showed what they were capable of, taking the victory 30-28. Hoping for the momentum to carry them through for the rest of the game, the men faltered early and the Spartans held their lead to win 25-20. Saturday’s game saw the Bobcats thrashed by the Spartans on the scoreboard and resulted in an efficient victory for Trinity Western University. The Bobcats made 20 errors compared to 5, and only scored 21 kills compared to 44. The mens’ top players of the weekend include Elliot Viles who had 22 kills and 3 blocks, and Seth Friesen who had 18 kills and 5 blocks.
The volleyball teams records now stand at 11-9 for the men and 7-13 for the women.
The Bobcats’ next games will be taking place in Calgary when they face off with the Mount Royal Cougars. If you would like to check out any of the Bobcats’ stats for yourself please go to the Bobcats official website at www.gobobcats.com.
