On October 28th, 2013, the Helping Hands Centre of Brandon will be hosting their first fundraising gala, with entertainment from the Brandon University School of Music, and a meal prepared by Red Seal chef Derek Woychyshynwas from Brandon’s Komfort Kitchen.
Festivities run from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. The event is being held at the Grey Owl Restaurant, located at the Assiniboine Community College North Hill Campus. The facilities were offered to the local soup kitchen by ACC free of charge. Mr. Woychyshynwas is offering his services free of charge, and the music for the evening will be provided by BU volunteers. Live and silent auctions are also planned.
Tickets for the evening gala are $75.00 each, with “all of the funds raised from the event used to support the ongoing operations of Helping Hands Centre.” Monetary donations, auction donation items, and sponsorships are also being accepted.
This is the first time Helping Hands has ever attempted to organize such an event, and if it proves successful, coordinator Vandana Jamadagni says they will continue to host one yearly.
Operating on a strict donation-only budget, the soup kitchen participates in very few other small fundraising opportunities throughout the year, including a Christmas donation.
Anyone interested in more information, and any music students interested in volunteering, can contact Vandana at 204-727-4635.
