Searching For Writers
by Ronnie Kayla Neiman
Hello students, faculty and other readers of The Quill. The past two years has been different, difficult and cause for society to adapt to the increasing changes.
No matter where you are or whether you are a student or an employee, your life has changed dramatically amid the COVID-19 pandemic where social distancing is key. Most people now rely on their laptops for studying and working, and have to meet their teachers, classmates and colleagues online. The Quill has been part of that online adaptation. While we were partly online prior to the pandemic, it has been a challenge to adapt to the new reality.
Many students who are writers with The Quill have had to deal with the changes. With long-distance learning, internet stability and instability, very few in-person classes and the inability to travel reliably. Faculty have had their troubles as well with time and city differences, and to adapt to a different style of teaching.
This means that not everyone has been able to attend the university either online or in-person as some had to stay in their home provinces. International students and even students across the country had trouble with the time differences.
As a result, The Quill cannot hold meetings, or hand out physical issues of the newspaper. Everything is online, which makes recruitment for new writers difficult as well.
We are always looking for new writers to contribute to The Quill. The only requirement is that our writers are a student at Brandon University.
A love of writing is also a plus and being a writer at a university newspaper looks great on a resume!
